I created this journal to help families break down barriers between generations and spark real, meaningful conversations. It’s packed with 50 thoughtful questions that guide you through everything from childhood memories to family history and the life lessons that shaped us. There’s even a special chapter for immigrant families to explore their unique journeys—questions that dive into what it’s like to leave a homeland or feel like you don’t quite fit in, even at home.
How We Got Here Journal isn’t just a set of questions. It’s about understanding why our parents are the way they are, and how their stories have influenced who we are. As an Asian American woman, I made sure to include a chapter specifically for those who’ve experienced immigration or cultural displacement. But honestly, it’s for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t fully belong.
My hope is that this journal helps families share their stories, tackle the tough questions, and capture their experiences in a way that future generations can hold onto. Whether you’re super close with your parents or still working on that relationship, this journal is a way to explore your family’s roots and break down the generational patterns that no longer serve you.
I’m so honored that How We Got Here Journal has been featured in the Long Beach Press Telegram and Long Beach Post, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share it with people who want to strengthen their connections with family and culture.
